Lee Lasker and the Gift Annuity

Leesbet Dubin Lasker grew up in Berlin and came to the United States in 1938. Her parents settled in Los Angeles and Lee was the first immigrant to attend Dorsey High School (and the first girl to ever attend a woodshop class!). Upon graduation, Lee studied bookkeeping and applied her skills at several companies before landing a position at MGM in timekeeping. She married her first husband, Louis Dubin, a Captain in the U.S. Army Sanitary Corps on March 17, 1945, at the Jewish Home in Boyle Heights, the only kosher facility in Los Angeles at the time that could accommodate a large formal wedding and reception. Shortly thereafter, Lou, a bioanalyst, completed his military service in the Philippines and returned home to establish the Beverly Drive Medical Laboratory. The couple had three children: Vivian, Gail and Marc.

After a long and happy marriage, Lou passed away in 1973. Lee eventually closed the laboratory and went back to school, graduating magna cum laude from Mount St. Mary's in 1976 with a B.S. in Nursing. She worked at Cedars of Lebanon before going into private practice with a Beverly Hills psychologist. Together, the women provided counseling for weight problems and those suffering from grief.

In 1980, love struck again, and Lee married Hans Lasker, a Berlin-born C.P.A. and law school graduate who served as a tax consultant for many international clients. Together, the couple traveled the world and spent 16 wonderful years together before he passed away in 1996. Lee then devoted herself to volunteering and supporting a variety of charities. The Jewish Home, however, is where Lee has chosen to create a legacy. Long aware of the Jewish Home's reputation for outstanding care for seniors, Lee chose to establish two Jewish Home Charitable Gift Annuities, providing her with a guaranteed lifetime income and additional tax benefits. This way, Lee's three children and two grandchildren will inherit her estate, while the Jewish Home receives a significant gift that is separate from the inheritance. A portion of Lee's income is tax-free for several years, and she has received charitable income deductions for both annuities.

The Jewish Home takes great pride in the fact that it is the beneficiary of a portion of Lee Dubin Lasker's legacy, and we gratefully recognize her commitment and dedication to our mission.
